Investigation of aerodynamic performance of Clark-Y airfoil with more realistic tubercle model and internal slots

An experimental study is conducted to research the combined effect of leading-edge (LE) tubercles and internal slots on Clark-Y airfoil at Reynolds numbers (Re) 5.0×104, 7.5×104, 1.0×105 for angles attack ranging from 0° 30°. The a cambered that performs well low medium numbers, having maximum thickness 11.7% 28% chord. Five different test models are subjects experiments, one which baseline. other Wavy model, has LE tubercles, with three slot positions: Wavy-LES (leading-edge slot), Wavy-MS (middle Wavy-TES (trailing-edge slot). tubercle geometry formed by sum two sinusoidal wave functions realistic approach. In present work, studies performed through force measurements, detailed information 3-dimensional flow field obtained surface-oil visualization technique. Force measurements indicate model delays stall exhibits smoother behavior compared Moreover, findings show lift coefficient (CL) deteriorates in pre-stall region inclusion but improves significantly post-stall region. Maximum improvement CL was achieved 60% Re 5.0×104 as At better lift-to-drag ratio (CL/CD) than region, whereas baseline best 1.0×105. CL/CD regardless numbers. variation characteristics relevant aerodynamic performance revealed surface oil all tested models.
